HAB Health Literacy–Seeking Trainers

Greetings!

On behalf of John Snow, Inc. (JSI) and the Black AIDS Institute (BAI), we are pleased to introduce the Health Resources and Services Administration, HIV/AIDS Bureau’s (HAB) Health Literacy Project Targeting Adult and Young Black/African American Men who have Sex with Men (MSM).

The HAB Health Literacy Project is designed to improve the capacity of health departments and community-based organizations to deliver health literate HIV services, with a particular focus on health services provided to Black/African American MSM.

We will select 100 trainers from 34 communities to participate in this training. After completing their training, trainers will select five health care professionals or organizations that serve Black/African American MSM in their communities and provide them with tailored health literacy training. The map below shows the communities where health literacy training will be offered.

Qualified applicants will be:

  • Experienced trainers
  • Comfortable discussing sexuality and stigma
  • Culturally sensitive
  • Familiar with Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program service providers, AIDS Service Organizations, and other community-based organizations in their community
  • Willing to dedicate their time to educate health professionals in their community about HIV health literacy

This project is designed to improve health outcomes along the HIV care continuum by developing health literate organizations and promoting health literacy as a component of culturally appropriate service delivery. By the end of this project, trainers will have advanced the goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, developed health literacy competencies, and strengthened their training and presentation skills. Trainers will receive a $500 honorarium for their participation.

Applications for the HAB Health Literacy Project are available online at https://bit.ly/NHLPapplication or by clicking here. Please share this opportunity with others in your network. The deadline to apply is June 12, 2015.
